EMU – CWS Participated in ‘A University with Communal Gender Equality Awareness’ Workshop Organised by Turkish Board of Higher Education

A workshop entitled “A University with Communal Gender Equality’ organised by Turkish Higher Education Board took place at Higher Education Board Conference Hall. The Higher Education Board Chair Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç delivered the opening address of the workshop where the First Lady Emine Erdoğan and Minister of Family and Social Policies Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşenur İslam delivered speeches.

Female academics from various universities of Turkey, female representatives from non-governmental organisations and Executive Board Chair of Eastern Mediterranean University Center for Women’s Studies and Education Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen, Executive Board Vice Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Seda Orbay Yücel and Executive Board members Prof. Dr. Ayşe Işık Gürşimşek and Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazime Beysan attended the workshop.

During the workshop, participants worked on different themes, some of which were the integration of “Communal Gender Equality Course” to the national curriculum as a compulsory course, awareness raising within the staff of the universities regarding communal gender equality, and violence, sexual harrasment, abuse and mobbing in the university environment.

The outcomes of the workshop were presented to the Board of Higher Education. During the upcoming days, reports will be discussed in relevant groups and be sent to universities for implementation.
